The Quantum Difference for Permanent Hair reduction
The gold standard IPL system - Voted the world's best hair removal. IPL is not a laser light but a more advanced technology known as intense pulsed light, which is a broad-spectrum light.
How does it work?
IPL is intense pulse light. It is precisely controlled strong pulses of energy (called a “photon”) or filtered light that are absorbed by melanin, the dark pigment in hair. This absorption raises the temperature of the hair follicle and thermally destroys the cells responsible for regrowth, to achieve long term hair reduction.
How many treatments are needed?
The Quantum IPL impairs the growth of those hair follicles which are in the growth cycle at the time of treatment. Not all hair follicles are at this stage at the same time. Therefore it’s necessary to have a series of treatments, generally four to six. Each treatment takes around 10-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and you can return to work the same day.
What will I see after the treatment?
Depending on the individual, follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The hairs will fall out after 1 – 3 weeks. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis. After treatment the hairs are loose in the follicle and can sometimes be easily pulled out with tweezers or by simply exfoliating.
Any side effects?
Side effects are rare. You may experience some slight reddening or local swelling at the treatment site, but this naturally goes away within hours. Sun exposure before and after treatment is not recommended.
How do I know if it’s right for me?
Obagi Medical Clinic wants you to be completely confident with the treatment. We are more than happy to have you come to the clinic and review our system as we take you through the process of IPL.Your therapist will design a treatment program to suit your individual hair and skin type. We’ll explain just what to expect from a treatment, any preparation you may need to do and how to look after your skin in between treatments.
If required a free test patch will be recommended and performed at this visit.
Importantly we won’t make any false promises.
Am I suitable?
The ideal candidate for IPL hair removal has light skin and dark hair. This does not mean that only people with very light skin and dark hair will have good results. We are able to treat people with at least some melanin in the hair. The treatment is less suitable for red hair, blonde hair, grey hair or white hair.
Your Result!
For best results a course of six to eight treatments are recommend, depending on the skin color and the hair type.
After a full course of treatments, patients maybe left with 10% hair growth, certain factors such as pregnancy, hormones, stress, certain medications may trigger and stimulate dormant hair follicles within the body.
Results may vary from person to person.
